Hello everyone, how was your Christmas?

We had our first relaxed Christmas at home this year as we just focused on our online shop rather than having a pop-up shop. The stall fee is getting higher every year that we have to put the price up to cover the cost, which we wanted to avoid.

Even though we had a family time, we missed our usual busy routine before the Christmas.

Anyways, thank you so much for our new&returning customers for your supports.

We wish you a Happy New Year 2017 and we will be here online as always and hopefully one day, we can have our own little shop where we can meet in person.

Our life these days rely on advanced technology in every area... We benefit out of advanced technologies. Some can sell goods online rather than having a retail shop.

On the other hand, many retail shops and CD, Book stores went out of business because of the changes in our life-style...(I love shops and books a lot personally and it is really sad to see...)

Candle making, just like something boomed and disappeared in the past, it followed similar history. It started long long long time ago... Using candle fish, animal fat, paraffin, beeswax etc. In the old days. The simple method of burning thread in the fat/oil but had bad smell, unstable burning, and required a lot of maintaining to keep the light going.

The invention of the braided wick allowed candle to burn steady... The invention of paraffin wax allowed mass production, less odor and less cost. However, soon after, the electricity was invented and many candle factories went out of the business...

The method of candle making is simple, all you need is wax and wick... but to have the candles what we have today took many many years and far improved burning and materials...

So... when you look at my candle... it is simple... but it is not easy to make a simple thing because you can't fake them. I haven't been able to produce better candles than what I have now.

There can be something remain unchanged, I guess and I hope...

I wish all the retail shops and book stores do well and meanwhile, I carry on making the same old candles.

It is very cold, windy and rainy here in Auckland.

My 2 year old daughter and dog do not seem to mind it at all except myself.

Just recently, I had a chance to re-read a famous poem called "Amenimo Makezu by Kenji Miyazawa." This is exactly what describes my feeling, which did not interest me before, but now. I thought I share this with you.

Hello, before I begin, I would like to acknowledge of our loss who fought in the wars as today is Anzac Day. I wish that we could cut the cycle of chain of killing each other. I am originally from a country deeply involved in the wars, we attacked and killed many people. We were also defeated badly and lost many people... My great uncle was killed in the war as well... It is heartbreaking to see what is happening around the world.

I just pray for world peace... and end this unnecessary killings... Always victims are civilians who would like to live simply... I just pray for world peace...

It is getting winter here in New Zealand. I am just getting over from being a little sad over shorter daylight and getting used to longer night.
